5 Mistake Khairy Made on Selangor Water Crisis

Media Statatement by Yeo Bee Yin, ADUN for Damansara Utama, on Wednesday 30 April 2014.

Five mistakes Khairy Jamaluddin had made in his statement on the Selangor water crisis.

I refer to the article written by Khairy Jamaluddin entitled “Who is to be blamed for Selangor’s Water Woes?”[1]. He has brilliantly put in some facts while conveniently ignored some, leading the readers to believe that Selangor government is solely to be blamed for the current water crisis.

BANGKITLAH, HARIMAU-HARIMAU JELUTONG!

RISE UP, TIGERS OF JELUTONG!

When the DAP flags waved proudly in the air, when the resounding chant "Karpal Singh, Karpal Singh, Karpal Singh" filled the streets of Penang, when I joint ten thousands Malaysians to walk his last journey, I knew that our beloved DAP chairman has fought a good fight.

Mr Karpal Singh has proven in his life that fighting for what is right, sometimes stubbornly so, is always the right thing to do. He has taught usthat only truth and justice may stand the test of time, and at the end of the day, these are all that matter.

Today we mourn his passing. He has left us at a time when there is still so much to do - so much injustice to remedy, so many violations to human rights to correct and so much abuse of power to stop. The Tiger of Jelutong has left us a moral standard so high to match, a void so huge to fill and a dream so difficult to achieve. But we must carry on.

“The fight goes on. You knock out one Karpal Singh, a hundred Karpal Singhs will rise,” he said last month. Today the Tiger of Jelutong has rested. Young politicians, young lawyers and young Malaysians must rise up to be a part of the one hundred Tigers of Jelutong to fill the vacuum. We must rise to the occasion, to continue his legacy.

We must not allow personal comfort, money and power or odds and obstacles to stray us from speaking up for what is right, upholding justice and preserving the rule of law.

When we want to compromise, let us be reminded of his unwavering spirit of justice even under the Internal Security Act detention or charged under the Sedition Act. When we want to give up fighting for the betterment of the country, let us be reminded that even when he was disabled after the 2005 accident, he continued to fight despite the excruciating pain in his body.

We may not be as eloquent as him, we may not be as fearless as him, we may be so small that we can't possibly fill the void he has left, but I know this, when all of us come together to march on with great determination, his unfulfilled dream for Malaysia will one day come true.

Rest in peace, Mr. Chairman. You and your principles will always be remembered in our struggles. The one hundred Tigers of Jelutong will continue to roar in every corner of Malaysia to uphold justice and to safeguard the democracy of this land.

Jangan main-main.

Will Paul Low be Transparent on New Highways?

Joint Media Statement by Yeo Bee Yin, Rajiv Rishyakaran, Ng Sze Han and Lau Weng San, State Assemblypersons of Damansara Utama, Bukit Gasing, Kinrara and Kampung Tunku on Sunday, 6 April 2014.  (BM and Chinese translation as below)

We call upon the minister in the prime minister office, Datuk Paul Low to walk the talk of transparency and push for the disclosure of Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (KIDEX) concession agreement.

Paul Low patut memastikan pendedahan perjanjian konsesi KIDEX

Reps lament Kidex secrecy, propose alternatives

Text Reference: http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/259186
A group of DAP state assemblypersons have lamented the secrecy shrouding the planned Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) and the federal government's apparent unwillingness to look at alternatives.

They are upset that the authorities have refused to release the project's Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) report, saying that it is protected under the Official Secrets Act 1972.

"Why it under the OSA? This is not about submarine, battle ships or air force fighters, it is not a national security issue and there is no reason for the TIA to be kept secret," Bukit Gasing state assemblyperson R Rajiv told a press conference at Asia Jaya LRT station in Petaling Jaya this morning.

Rajiv, together with Lau Weng San (Kampung Tunku), Yeo Bee Yin (Damansara Utama) and NgSze Han (Kinrara) urged acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein to order the release of the information.

Yeo said the information is needed for the people to decide their stance on the project.

This comes as the Pakatan Rakyat-led Selangor government is being forced to take sides after local residents, faced with land acquisition by the federal-approved project, turned on it.

On Wednesday, residents protested outside the Selangor state secretariat and submitted a memorandum to Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim in the hope that the state which has powers over land matters can be a road block to Putrajaya's plan.

"We are refraining from opposing until we see the right facts and figures by an independent body, then we can make an educated and informed decision," she said, urging transparency from Putrajaya.

The 14.9km elevated highway will begin from the north at NKVE Damansara toll and run southwards to the Bukit Jalil Highway near Kinrara, passing through the heart of Petaling Jaya.
